ZZU High School Tournament TEAM

Overview: This team constitutes anyone who plays for Zig Zag at a High School level at any of the aforementioned tournaments. There are no tryouts to join and players are not required to attend every tournament offered (although it is highly encouraged). All players in the Zig Zag High School league are welcome to join the Zig Zag Tournament Team, in fact I would go so far as to say that we want every player from our High School league to join the tournament team. Tournaments are events where we get to journey with friends to compete with and against other Ultimate enthusiasts. They are the testing ground for tactics and the playground where we push the balance of competition and joy to its limits. Tournaments are the cherry on top to our hot fudge sundae of a season. You won't want to miss them.

Logistics: The Zig Zag High School Tournament Team is attending 4 tournaments this Spring season. There are 21 roster spots for each tournament, first come-first serve. Sign up after the 21st person and you will be added to a waitlist, which may turn into a second ZZU team depending on the tournament and the number of waitlisted players. Each Tournament is at a different location and players are responsible for getting themselves to and from the Tournament site. Expect to arrive 1 hour before the first game starts to uncreak those joints and shake out some of the goofs. Carpooling is highly encouraged. Not only is it better for the environment and parent's wallets, it makes the road trip a lot more fun.

Tournaments

HUC (Heritage Ultimate Classic)

High School teams from around Michigan come together to start their seasons in a friendly, round-robin format. Expect 3-4 games playing against teams like Saginaw Round Table, Traverse City 231 Lake Effect, and Ann Arbor Flickity Split. I've gone to this tournament with White Lightning for the past two years and each time we learned a lot and had a blast. The Heritage Ultimate Classic is always a great way to kick off the season.

  • WHAT: HUC Tournament

  • WHEN:  Saturday, May 3rd | 9:00am - 3:00pm

  • WHERE: Heritage High School - 3465 N Center Rd, Saginaw, MI 48603

  • Registration closes after the second week of the season, on April 26th, so make sure you're signed up for every tournament by then!

Neuqua Knockout

One of the largest tournaments in our region, Neuqua Knockout boasts two divisions of High School teams from across the region and beyond. It's not unheard of for teams from the East coast and beyond to make an appearance at this massive showdown. By request of our White Lightning leadership team we have received special permission to attend for just one day out of this massive two day tournament. In future seasons it may be an option to attend the entire event. Until then, we have the unique opportunity to test our strength against other regional powers. This will likely be the proving ground for strategies that White Lightning takes to States at the end of the season.

  • WHERE:  Mercyhealth Sportscore Two, 8800 E Riverside Blvd, Loves Park, IL  61111

***If you are attending Neuqua Knockout, the Girls States Showcase, or the MI Open State Championship you will be asked for your USAU ID at registration. These are USAU sanctioned events, so in order to play at any of them you need to be a USAU member. Zig Zag will take care of the membership process for all attending players, but we will need your USAU ID in order to officially add you to our team and give you a USAU membership. If you already have a USAU account you'll just need to login and you'll see your "USAU Account ID#" in the top right corner of your screen. If this is your first time playing at a USAU sanctioned tournament you may need to create a USAU account. Once your account is made you'll see the same "USAU Account ID#". Just let us know what your 6 digit account number is and we'll take care of the membership. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

ZZU High School Invite

Our very own High School tournament right in our backyard of Quincy Park, Holland. Similar to HUC and States in format, except with the addition of a Girls High School States Showcase game. All available girls are encouraged to join this first ever event. The first of its kind in Michigan, we are hosting a Girl's States game. The format has yet to be announced. It will take place on the same day, at the same location as the ZZU High School invite and will incorporate Girl Ultimate Athletes from across MI. Even if you aren't interested in going to other tournaments, consider coming to this one. The proximity combined with the timing of this Tournament make it a great way to finish out your regular season with a bang. And if you're coming to States this will be a good chance to see what the other title contenders are bringing.

Michigan High School Open State Championship

The pinnacle of Michigan Ultimate Competitions. The climax of the season, for all the fame and glory that Michigan Youth Ultimate has to offer, High School States is the last tournament of the season and as such is the last chance to show what you've learned and play with the friends you made in Spring. Players who participate in this Tournament will have an extra week of games and practice at the end of their season as we prepare to take on the toughest competition yet. Each team will be bringing their A game, putting it all on the line for the illustrious State Championship. The stakes don't get any higher and the gains are never greater than they are at States. Whether you compete or cheer from the sidelines, you won't want to miss it.
